Couple: Home ant invasion 'like a horror movie'

They thought would be a good place to build a family. Instead, a West Seattle couple inherited a 'colony' of unwanted guests.

It all began when the Scott and Allison Taylor toured their home on 51st Avenue SW before moving in. The Taylors say they noticed some ants here and there, and told the management company about it.

The couple thought property managers would fix the problem. Instead, four and a half months later, the pesky pests are still there, and the couple's first baby is due in three weeks.

Now they're finding ants in the baby's cradle and crawling all over the kitchen counter.

"I mean, every time we turn around, there's ants on something," says Scott Taylor.

He says it's enough to make your skin crawl.

"It's definitely like a horror movie," Scott says.

The Taylors have lived in the West Seattle home for 20 weeks. They started documenting the ants they saw crawling everywhere as soon as they rented the place.

Thirteen video clips, 22 pictures, and four and a half months later, the problem is still there.

"What I've wanted all along is just to have it under control before the baby came, and she'll be here in a couple of weeks, and it's still just a mess," Allison says.

It's a mess the Taylors say the property management company isn't doing enough to get rid of it. Their shower is so infested they can't use it.

It took a lot of complaining, the Taylors say, but property managers finally sent a tree trimmer and two exterminators. It appears the tactics aren't working.

"We signed a lease assuming we'd have a house with a functional kitchen and a functional bathroom," says Allison. "We don't have that."

So, instead, they adjust. Silverware is confined to a plastic container -- in a kitchen they cannot use -- and the baby is on the way.

"We've lived all over, and we've never had a problem with this kind of thing before," Scott says.

"If I need to set a baby bottle out to dry it's going to have ants crawling all over it, and it just breaks my heart," Allison says.

The previous renter of the house says he had the same problem over many months, and the management company did very little to fix it.

KOMO News left several messages for Apple Property Management on Saturday - including a couple messages on their emergency line - but we got no response.
