South Park will say goodbye to bridge with a wake | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Neighbors will come together on June 30 to say goodbye to the South Park Bridge as it closes for good.
Bill Pease, president of the South Park Bridge Committee, is organizing a wake for the Bridge. As the barricades go up at 7 p.m. on June 30, pipers will sound and a wreath will be laid.
Residents are invited to the bridges end on 14th Avenue South where there will be live street music by a New Orleans Jazz band and a mariachi band plus food and drinks from local restaurants.
There will also be an information booth to help community members cope with the loss of the bridge.
Plus, Pease is working to create an "audio portrait" of the bridge, recording the sounds of the bridge while it is open. He hopes to distribute a soundscape to all wake attendees.
